While Sodom Road is not Dale Morningstar’s debut solo album, (he did one way back in 1988) it is his most impressive (he has quoted a review of that album “all the impact of a small underwater fart). With vocals that sound like Neil Young, it’s hard to believe that Dale spends most of his time in the noise rock band Dinner Is Ruined. Sodom Road is a fairly mellow affair with plenty of roots influences as well as a crapload of Tom Waits quirkyness thrown in for good measure. Usually the vocals only have a guitar or piano with the odd drum line placed here and there. His vocals are primarily out of key but there is a charm that Dale holds that demands your attention. Sodom Road is somewhat experimental like the 11+ minute closer “If Mr. President Had A Brain, but for the most part Dale sticks to tried and true singer/songwriter formulas that get people right into your music. Sodom Road is a very unique album regardless.
