Lightbulb - Live:first Show
OK, this is trio of hot girls, playing post-rock and plodding, bass-driven rock that sure does remind you of other girl bands, like Scrawl and Throwing Muses. But before you female PHD’s jump on me, they also remind me righteously of Drunks With Guns and tentative Lightning Bolt.
Songs plod along with the kind of confidence that comes from obviously playing in front of friends, but also from having a knowledge of a genre that makes sense to them, and one that they can pull off with both talent and humor driving the music, not undermining it. Lyrically they probably do make more sense to friends, but minor-key sludge backing up non-sequitur impressions of daily life is never a bad way to see the world, the Lightbulb deliver their worldview with a confidence that only comes from youth and two/three chords. Rock and Roll.
