Elvis Presley - The Complete Sun Sessions
Jesus Christ, where’d you get that Cadillac? What is a website, a life, without a Rosetta Stone?
Holding this CD in your hand is like holding a collection of Isaac Newton’s first essays, or early paper versions of the Torah. If you doubt this, go log on to Billboard and believe that the upcoming Spice Girls reunion or Police tour is really relevant. Today I was listening to this and "London Calling" and it is hard to tell which one has more changed the world. Aside from Music Emissions, you need Big O Magazine, a Thai website that offers choice bootlegs. This week you can download a boot of an Elvis concert from 1974 in Vegas, where he rants more than once about the "rumors" about drug use and other Promethean excess. Of course it was all true, but his sad denials only reinforce his meaning. Elvis was the first to elevate APPETITE to the level of national imperative, and this collection of outtakes and demos is ground zero of America, 2007. He may be faking it when he says "Let’s get real gone for a change," but if that isn’t an unofficial American Amendment to the Constitution, then rock and roll has been a myth and you have been a fool for believing that life beyond a career job in a corporation and having 3 kids is not the ideal.
