I don’t know what “dirt style” is, but it’s horribly repetitive. Oh, and there are lots of airplane crashes too. “Crash crash/I think I’m goin’ crash” sings Trash Money of their airborne ride on their new single 747. You sincerely hope they do by the zillionth time they repeat this mind-numbing line, just so they’ll shut up and let you listen to the catchy nearly-on-the-dance-floor instrumentals. Thank goodness they do for an extended break, relenting a glimpse of gritty electronica instrumentals. This comes as a bit of a shock after the opening track which is filled past the brim with distorted fuzz guitars. Are these latter tracks remixes, or experimentation, or just what Trash Money is all about? Alas that their press release forgot that it had to be informative! Well, turns out it’s a bit of everything. Trash Money is quite the hodgepodge of fuzz-brained guitar rock, trip-hop sludge, and random crap. Made up of former band members of Sneaker Pimps (sort of like The Chemical Brothers playing Garbage’s instruments with Bjork producing the whole damn thing…which actually may not be a bad description of Trash Monkey either), Little Killers (White Stripes garage-rock), and Ultrafox (sorta kinda like Robots In Disguise), it’s not hard to see why Trash Money is pulled in so many musical directions. Confined to this release though, Trash Money are nothing but trash talk. “747” is an okay track with vocals that could use less repetition or more lyrics. The remixes are nifty B-sides, showing just how different Trash Money can twist their own music. I’m not sold on the musical  prowess of Trash Money until I can get a full-length however, which hopefully is not too far around the corner.
