Very well known in the underground music world, at the drive in is about to make the leap into the limelight with their Grand Royal debut. If you are unfamiliar with the band think of a powerhouse like Jawbox but throw in even more heavy hooks like early Fugazi and you might be able to visualize the appeal of this outstanding band. Cedric's vocals (imagine Zack de la Rocha singing for Fugazi) have improved and matured over the bands short life and he is able to pull the listener right into the complete cacophony of sounds. The sonic foundation the band lays down is blistering at best. The album starts of with the train chug of "Arc Arsenal" and continues to develop into a killer groove. Despite the aggressiveness of this album repeated listens are necessary. This is one of the best post-punk albums to come out in a long time.

I am glad this was rated a classic, if it wasn't already reviewed I was about to go back and do the same exact thing.

This album is a jawbreaker. The tone is on the offense, while the mood is on the defense... meaning that while most of the tracks are high energy and aggressive, you're never going to know what the hell they're singing about (and you probably won't care). The first 4 songs set the tone and then its a roller coaster from there on out. At the Drive-In touches hardcore, electronic, funk, and jazz all in one. I think between this album and "In/Casino/Out," At the Drive-In is at their best. Relationship of Command makes me feel panicked like water boiling out of a pot and onto my stove.
