It's been a while since Fridge has popped up out of its hole. For obvious reasons. Kieran Hebden's other project, Four Tet sort of took off and was quite successful. AND Adem Ilhan's project simply titled Adem was fairly successful too. So while they never meant to, Fridge was put on the back-burner until now. The Sun is a great album and really picks up right where Happiness leaves off.

The album opens up with the title track, some nice drums guiding the listener in. It remains mostly a percussive track with little to do with other instrumentation. "Clocks" is a pleasant journey and takes a bit of a left turn right at the end and gets a little noisy, not too obnoxious though. "Our Place in This" is much more ambient and organic that most of the material we've heard from Fridge. It's a lovely song and a nice addition to their sound. Then we get to my favorite, "Eyelids". It almost feels like a Spoon song with a little more bleeps and blips added. It's rough around the edges but that's what I like about it. The track "Oram" is really organic with pretty much all live instruments, something that it seems Hebden and crew are striving for on The Sun. But then "Comets" seems to be all electronic. "Insects" seems like it could be a Sea and Cake track. Some interesting guitar lines blended with some free improv stuff makes for a very compelling track. Overall, the mix between organic instruments and electronics is nice and even. Enough of both that it makes it hard to classify.
