Moo, You Bloody Choir is Australia's Augie March's third full-length album and while they have made friends with the critics in North America, they are still striving for an audience. Unfortunately this album should may not help them out. It is a solid album that tries it's best to make friends with you but has too much of that mellow stuff. While the title of Moo, You Bloody Choir sounds more like a goofy metal album, Augie March are far from that. They are a lovely pop band that crafts some complicated pop balladry in some clever ways. This makes for a complicated listen the first couple times.

The album opener, "One Crowded Hour" is a gentle lilting track that has some of the much-loved Augie March arrangements. "Victoria's Secret" tends to bore though. They seem to try to go over the top with some of the lead ins to some of the verses. And "The Cold Acre" has potential but I found it to tire quite easily too. I wanted to like it and did enjoy the guitar lines but that was about it.

A song like "Clockwork" wears even after you are into the rest of the album. It just sort of drones on without going anywhere. Fine for a background song and that's about it.

So ultimately Moo, You Bloody Choir is lacking in delivery. If you think you might be interested start with Strange Bird. It seems to have much more staying power than this album. Who knows, this album may come back at me and become a classic favorite but for now it's disposable. I think Glenn Richards songwriting has so much potential but he seems to fall flat here.
