Being that their music has been used frequently on iTunes iPod commercials, I'm surprised that the album Cansei De Ser Sexy by CSS doesn't have more reviews for their breakthrough record here on Music Emissions. Especially since iTunes has a knack for finding and exposing up-and-coming bands that Music Emissions tends to like. (At least a page was set up before I got here)
CSS formed in September 2003, consisting of a group of friends from Sao Paulo in Brazil. Their name was taken from a reported quote by Beyonce, who allegedly declared that she was "tired of being sexy". Four of the five members of the group are women, with the lone male being Adriano Cintra. Cintra, a drummer turned bassist, also writes and produces for CSS.
Cansei De Ser Sexy is at its core a dance record that retools New Wave synth sounds with disco beats and infectious hooks that you will be repeating for days after you hear them. Lead vocalist Lovefoxxx (don't be scared away by her name, I promise she is not a Spice Girl reincarnated) has a quality with her performance that is both strong yet vulnerable, sassy but endearing. The perfect fit for this outfit. So beware. CSS will make you want to get up and dance with whoever is around you while playing these songs.
