Alt-Country has entered middle age, which means that its clichés are set and you need to sift through dozens of pretenders until you find a good ‘un. This EP is a good sign that Analog Heartbreak might have the legs to shine.
The trio from the deep south is lead by Ryan McClellan, who puts his heart and his Vox to the test on tunes ranging from the naked to the open-shirt, ‘70’s style. That’s what gives the set its punch. "I’ll Forget Again" and "Girl With A Broken Heart" reflect a serious, honest approach to the writing, while "Come With Me" and "Puget Shore" also reveal humor and love of classic rock and good old blues progressions that are endearing. No ironic posers here; McClellan and company love who and what they love with no shame, and that is a winning combination.
