Appleseed Cast is trying to tie us over with a collection of rarities until they have their next masterpiece ready to unveil. If you never picked up Low Level Owl 1 & 2 then I would suggest you put them on your wish list. It was a double album that really had no rival in the music world. Lost Songs takes some of their earlier releases and their later meticulous soundscapes with hours of studio wizardry collected to give you what was left behind. Appleseed Cast is one of those bands that have so much good content that good songs end up on the cutting room floor. Four of the songs include basic tracks that were completed in 1999 but the band revisited them and added some guitars, keyboards, and effects to make them up to the Cast’s today standards. This is a band that is to be enjoyed on headphones. Their music is very complex and it’s easy to miss details if you are not paying attention. My favorite situation for Appleseed Cast is to put them on the stereo with the lights down low and the volume turned high. Instrumentation is amazing and when the vocals come in, there is just so much space for them to slide into place. I would say that Appleseed Cast is Deep Elm’s pride and joy and flagship band.
