Eighteen slabs of improve, ranging from guitar noise freakouts to electronic static and prepared turntables, presented with over thirty video segments of the same type of experiments, is a lot to digest at once. Given that Yoshihide has long been one of the great fearless improvisers, this CD/DVD collection is exhausting as it is exhilarating.
The selections are grouped according to main mechanism for delivery: Vinyls, Plucks,
Frets, signifying use of turntable, rubber bands on turntables, guitar. While "Blue Feedback" and "Tone Generator" are mesmerizing in their use of harsh and soft colors to create a kind of powerful trance, it is the guitar work that is most effective. There is nothing like noise guitar improve to clear the air—and the room. Remember, annihilation is spiritual too. A stunning package for a stunning performance, this collection shows the astounding depth and number of Yoshihide’s ideas and experiments in tactile sound.
