This record aims for the epic, mixing its dark and heavy grooves with a bit of prog-rock colors that oddly add to the sadness rather than distract. Harsh guitar and somber rhythms gives a heaviness to "These House of Despair" "Justice of Suffering," "Doomed To Walk The Earth" and others poignancy rare in the genre. While no new ground is covered—the world sucks, evil forces are winning, there is no point in optimism-the title of the record is no misprint. This is one Finnish band that sees darkness close-up, but doesn’t play it off for satanic posturing. Swallow the Sun seems truly scarred by life on our little planet, and they deliver impressions of what they see with honesty and power. This is a band to watch.
