1997 - A Better View Of The Rising Moon
Victory has now officially moved into the pop territory. 1997 is pop. There is no punk here, no emo, just genuine pop-rock. 1997 is a new band to surface in the Chicago area. Most members are music veterans, despite their collective young ages. And damn, 1997 is already ten years ago.
With a quick listen to the first track of A Better View Of The Rising Moon, "Water's Edge", you will find out if you will like A Better View Of The Rising Moon, 1997's debut album. It will be a good indicator of your tolerance for the band. Because there is a lot more of the same to come. "Garden Of Evil" might be even more sugary than the first track. But that's what this band is after, fun sensible pop. They don't strive to be something that they aren't. They do the female/male vocal quite well, even try a little of the screamo style in the background but nothing overwhelming to the pop ideals.
1997 is somewhat refreshing in the emo/punk/rock world. They work on harmonies and try to have fun, a reason alone why this band should do half decent. I'm old. I'm thirtysomething and I found some fresh air in 1997 so I'm sure anyone under 25 looking for some good, youthful pop should find some merit in what 1997 are trying to do. Or you could find this stuff cheesy as hell and it will make you want to puke. I eventually bored of their pop style by the second/third listen. Take 'em or leave 'em, they probably don't care.
