Omnium Gatherum play melodic death metal with a little thrash mixed in for S’s & G’s. While their enigmatic record title remains a mystery, though we are teased with the dyslexic "The Snake and the Way." The hinted at myth and/or parable slithers its way through other tracks like "A-Part of God," "Drudgery," "In Sane World" and "Dysnomia." All are good and gloomy, with occasional operatic flair. Still, there is something of the "tried for epic, no get" feel about the record. A little humor, if that is possible in death metal, might have helped. Note: when a metal band is praised for "complex" songs, it is time to fast forward to the solos, and leave the lyrical interpretations to teen boys in thrall to Neil Peart. Kick Out The Jams, Motherfucker!
