It took me a while to find but I finally tracked down the new Hank Dogs. I don't know what was going through their former label, Hannibal when they made the decision to let them go elsewhere because Bareback was one of the most compelling folk debut albums to ever hit the stands. Half Smile has made an appearance and Hank Dogs have decided to do things their own way on their Hank Dogs label with distribution by Spin Art. Bareback will always hold a place in my heart but Half Smile is no half effort. The songwriting and harmony intricacies are fabulous as well. There aren�t many upbeat tracks on Half Smile as there were on their debut. The odd one picks up a bit but Half Smile is not meant to be a rocker. It�s album you kick back with on a lazy Sunday afternoon, enjoying a coffee and reading the paper (one of my favorite Sunday pastimes). The guitar work is amazing and is a fine showcase of fingerpicking at it�s best. The team is still the same but by the looks of the back cover, there has been a new addition, a baby boy. Anyone interested in softly spoken guitar music will fully enjoy Hank Dogs. Half Smile brings a full smile to my face.
