AM/FM - Mutilate Us
AM/FM may have a bit of an identity crisis but it befits them. They have many styles that they fly through on their debut album and they are all very well done. There are some tracks that they miss on but not very many. AM/FM consists of two members, Brian Sokel and Michael Parsell, who together wrote all the songs (save one Beach Boys cover) on Mutilate Us. Their sound is a similar to that of some of the Elephant 6 collective with a wannabe lo-fi sound but instead they opt for a completely stereo sound that they downplay throughout. Some songs are very beautiful and minimalistic while others tend to be a bit more full in sound. I find it quite amazing that they can create such a lush album with only the two of them. There is the odd song that they get some help from friends but for the majority of the album there are two players. Mutilate Us is a great debut album. Watch for more from this talented duo.
