While Aqualung is a little mainstream for this site, I still think Matt Hales deserves the press. He is a talented man and even though he makes Adult Oriented Rock he manages to weave wonderful melodies without sounding too cheesy.

Memory Man is Aqualung's follow up to Hales' quite successful US debut, Strange and Beautiful. The album opens on a grand scale with the large 'Cinderella', the current single off of the album. It has some great dynamics that make the song very poignant and refreshing at the same time. "Pressure Suit" follows that and its textured beats really add to Matt's wonderful voice, which has been compared to Thom Yorke's. "Something To Believe In" has a great piano line that brings you in, alongside a metronomic beat, creating a mesmerizing atmosphere.
 
On "Garden Of Love", Aqualung is able to establish a grandeur that only a full band should be capable of. It ebbs and flows better than some of the best Coldplay songs. Honestly, all tracks on Memory Man deserve to be included.

So if you are into the lighter fare of Snow Patrol, Travis or even Keane then don't miss out on Aqualung. It's the sort of album you'd bring with you on a long road-trip. Nothing groundbreaking but definitely well put together and easy to listen to. Not bad for a 35 year old.
