'Stars On The Wall' is the latest effort by Belgium's The Go Find. If you haven't come across them before, think Kings of Convenience with equal parts electronics and guitar but slightly more upbeat. It's no surprise Morr Music were attracted to their sound. With gentle atmospherics and soothing vocals the main theme of the disk, The Go Find sit comfortably amongst such acts as American Analog Set and Styrofoam but are original enough not to come across as mere followers of the same. The Go Find have something about them.
It takes no time to sink into these songs. They're immediately catchy and before you know it you will have declared one song to be your favourite before hearing the next track and finding yourself forced to reconsider. 'Dictionary' comes across as an ode to someone, but who exactly it isn't clear. The pop element is there, vibes dance just beneath the unbelievably gentle voice of Dieter Sermeus but his lyrics are vague enough to retain an element of artistic credit. And credit where it's due. As tracks pass you by you will soon realise that this is a near perfect indie pop album. The songs come across as both hopeful and melancholy at the same time. Considered and thought out but not pretentious or self-indulgent (except perhaps the rather pointlessly long intro to the closer 'Kid OK'). 'Downtown' could fit in any respected singer/songwriters repertoire and be an album highlight with its slide guitar and picked steel string acoustics. My personal favourite however, is the gossamer '25 years'. I challenge anyone to listen to the chorus and not get shudders.
'Stars On The Wall' is a pop gem and comes highly recommended. The inclusion of an organic backing band has really given The Go Find a wealth of opportunity and I for one cannot wait to hear where they go next with it.
