A shrill, echoing introduction akin to the sort you would expect upon entry to church on a cold, dank Sunday morning signals the commencement of ‘Untitled Micro Mini’ and Pat Gubler’s third album under the guise of P.G. Six. The song winds into a searching, slightly country edged, instrumental sojourn, creating a warm but deep ambience. It is not until halfway through the acoustic pushed folk/Americana, instrumental grind of marathon ‘The Dance’ that Pat’s hint of James Taylor vocals, enters the fray to slide along delicately against a soft and supple female singing stroll. Some fatter Jazz elements provide extra feeling and you sense that Pat is well and truly in his stride.

A weighty folk vein brings down a contemplative mood that is brought to the fore through longing vocals and weaving guitars in ‘Cover Art Reprised’. A subtle female kick of the Joan Baez ilk takes pride of place in the winding ‘End Of Winter’. This leads nicely into a The Byrds styled exploration ‘Ive Been Travelling’, as the accompaniment is jangling, weaving and friendly. Suddenly this picks up the tone and momentum for a two minute shot of uplifting song crafting that continues into ‘Bless These Blues’, featuring a tingling male/female vocal to and fro and some Paul Weller instrumentalism. The supporting cast of musos and singers, allows Gubler to truly search emotively and find the right pitch for each mood and sentiment. A gospel feel in ‘Sweet Music’ finishes of a deft offering of depth and foraging, showing many sides to this craftsman.
