On Sweet Tea, Buddy Guy takes a few steps back and revisits the raw blues that he used to do so well. How does Buddy fare with this trip back? I would have to say that this reviewer feels that Sweet Tea is Buddy’s finest moment. I know this is a strong statement for a seasoned blues player such as Mr. Guy but one listen will have you drooling over some of his licks here. Sweet Tea is so raw that it would feel at home on the gritty Fat Possum label. In fact Buddy borrows a couple of the late Junior Kimbrough tracks to get down and dirty too. He shows no restrain when it comes to jamming too, like on T-Model Ford’s “Look what you got or his12 minute plus jam on Kimbrough’s “I gotta try you girl. He not only goes for some raw covers but the production on Sweet Tea is loose and allows all the dirt to slide through. You can even hear Buddy’s voice echoing on some tracks. This is a fine addition to any blues fan’s collection.
