I do have to admit that before I got this reissue I hadn't heard Disincarnate. Obviously, if you've heard the band you'll know that it was my bad. This early 90s death metal band had everything you could ever want in the genre. The band was led by the wonderful James Murphy who had been in a number of other death metal acts. The band only released Dreams of the Carrion Kind and then fell a short death. If you have followed metal for a number of years, you will recognize Murphy's somewhat melodic metal riffs that he pulls off in Disincarnate. Very Obituary-like. Oh, the songs are heavy as hell but when you peel back the layers you can't help but be amazed at the technical skills he showcases on songs like "Entranced".
Any Disincarnate fans may want to pick up the reissue. It has three demo tracks, "Stench of Paradise Burning", "Soul Erosion", and "Confine of Shadows", all songs that ended up on the album anyway but they show where they came from.
Many young metal-core, death metal, or just metal bands should pick up Dreams of the Carrion Kind. I think they could learn a lot from a band that is this tight and even during the death metal heyday, they could still make something sound a little different. It would have been interesting had they made more albums.
