There is a new sound popping up from the Pennsylvania area and a new label called Universal Warning is there to capture it on disc. While somehow they have convinced the areas indie darlings, The Jazz June, to come and record for their new label they use this band as the pilot project for what the sound is going to be. The Jazz June provides two brand new tracks (“Those Pills Won’t Calm Your Nerves and “Sabbath Song), which are both some very creative songwriting examples. I look forward to hearing their new full-length. But The Jazz June is not the highlight on the disc. I have chosen Fakebomb’s “Spearhead to be the compilation’s highlight. It must be said that there isn’t really a bad track on here and that the rest of the bands deserve mention. From Common Knowledge is a bit of a heavier edge sound, The Covert Agency is a little more pop oriented reminding me of an old local band here in Calgary called Skin Barn. Sadaharn reminds me a lot of Sparkmarker when Ryan Scott was singing for them. And finally No On 15 is a ska-core band that really knows how to utilize horns. My only complaint is that the whole compilation could have used a bit better production.
