Remember the NES? Remember the audio capabilities it possessed? HORSE The Band sure do. On their debut "R. Borlax" the band quite simply defines "nintendocore" by combining hardcore songwriting with 8-bit keyboard melodies, while lyrically focusing on various aspects of classic gaming. Well-known track "Cutsman", for instance, refers to a boss in Mega Man. While this strange concoction of ideas, on paper, may look silly, the guys in HORSE make it work, and work well. The vocals can grow tiresome and rarely tread from a straight-forward shouting typical of this style of music. You still can't help but laugh at a man screaming "scissors on his fucking head!" over a frienzied hardcore breakdown; and perhaps that's the true appeal of the band. Whether they tickle your funnybone or get your head a'bangin, HORSE are a band on the rise and are certainly deserving of some originality points.
