The first thing that comes to mind when upon listening to After The Sirens’ What I Have to Give, Let it be Enough is “this seems harmless enough.” This sentiment stays with me throughout the album. These guys are pure pop punk, and I doubt they would deny it. The CD opens with an intro track, “White Noise with Grace Notes,” before launching into the first real song, “We Buy Jewelry When the Love Runs Out.” This song nicely introduces you to the highly marketable yet entertaining music to come. Drawing on the trend of bands like Motion City Soundtrack, The Academy Is, and various other, er, “emo” bands, there is a healthy dose of synth with the obligatory whiny singer and badass, if sort of annoying, long song names. The more I think about it, the more I realize this band should be everything I hate. They’re trendy, poppy, and worst of all, just might be well liked at some point. The only problem is, it’s good. This CD is a fun listen, even if you’re the kind of person who has trouble taking this music seriously. And if you’re not? Well then, it’s even better.
