I think we've got a 'maggot' on our hands haha. It's cool, but lemme tell ya, I think I could direct you to about 150 metal albums that trump this one. For starters. :p

Slipknot are a band known for riding a fine line in the metal realm; treading waters with the more popular nu-metal and creating a sound that could be described as "pop-metal", if such a term didn't contradict itself. On "The Subliminal Verses", we find a slightly matured Slipknot still sticking to the formula that crafted their first three outings. Branches into unfamiliar territory, such as the mournful longing found on "Vermillion (pt.1 & 2)" or the more subtle self-depreciating "Circle", only prove to be mere distractions on an all-too-familiar road we've all been down. Hyped-up tracks "Duality" and "Pulse of the Maggots" fail to impress, sounding like re-hashings of previous hits. Still, overall this album provides what Slipknot has always been able to in spades; plenty of misaimed anger that a particular crowd will always find appeal in. And there are moments when you feel a pretty good band is lying beneath what they try to so hard to be.
