This disc came to me in the mail without me ever hearing about the band. Yellowcard now comes highly recommended by myself after only a brief listen to their debut One For The Kids. Lobster Records is yet a small label but they are becoming very important with bands such as Yellowcard, Whippersnapper, and Mock Orange already on their roster. With that being said, let’s get into One For The Kids. The album starts off with “* Struck which is a good driving track that is reminiscent of the Get Up Kids. The next track is “Drifting and it is appropriately entitled with its soaring sound. There is no doubt that the band puts its heart and soul into every track and each track is significantly different. “Something of Value starts out with a gentle strumming in an unheard of 3/4 time that sways really nicely. Yellowcard obviously aren’t afraid of anything because they even incorporate a violin in one track. After you have finished listening to the album you will agree with me that Yellowcard has succeeded in creating a very diverse album and even if it might fit into the emo descriptor it still rocks mighty hard with all the hooks you could ever ask for.
