RecommendGrabowski has continually taken avant-garde conceits and, mixed with emotion and empathy, created something new. As the title of his label suggests, he has gone beyond Cage and found something deeply human in the silence, not to provoke so much as to instruct or remind. He is one of the leading practitioners of minimalist ambient music, and his work never ceases to challenge and change the listener, at least this one.
Here, Grabowski keeps to short tracks, small impressions, or notes. The tension of the small space is filled by the myriad of tonal and cerebral images that can be derived from confined space. His music seems to hum along as the traveler explores his limited space, and finds it filled with wonder. This is not earth-shattering, nor is it meant to be. It is meant to be present in the space it inhabits, and to be open to its messages. You can’t ask more from music, or from your own personal space.
