Volumizer is a bit of a punk band from Vancouver that comprises a bunch of art students into a punk band. This is kept focused by Bill Napier-Hemy who was the guitarist for Vancouver’s Pointed Sticks, the first Canadian band to sign to Stiff Records. This is a female fronted punk band and one of the best to come along in a while. Lead singer, Shannon Oksanen has charisma and a voice to go along with it. Volumizer plays simple punk songs not that much different from that of old punkers The Rezillos but somehow manage to repackage the music to fit into here and now. Guitars are prominent and noisy but the band has no problem quieting things down for a bit in order to get a bit of a ballad across. For the most part, Volumizer is a throw-back to the old school punk days but like I said, they are completely relevent and almost refreshing in the Canadian punk scene. Watch for a tour to follow.
