I remember I fell in love with Eleni Mandell's album, Afternoon, a couple years ago. It was mostly her soft-spoken vocals that started the love. It also helped that the songs that she was writing were some of the best female fronted songs I'd heard in a long time. Now with Miracle Of Five we are treated to much more of the same. I was thinking that I might be disappointed, not having listened to her in such a long time but no, there was no disappointment whatsoever. Her vocals are just as strong as they were previously. Even stronger on smokey torch-songs like "Beautiful". The albums brings you in gently with "Moonglow, Lamp Low", a lovely introduction to the Miracle of Five. Another reason to enjoy an album such as this is the production. Producer Andy Kaulkin needs to be congratulated on a great job with Mandell's latest. Eleni's vocals are always just high enough in the mix to be the forefront of the song, while other instruments weave in and out in a seductive dance. Apparently this was done by recording Mandell and adding the instruments later. It's fantastic and there are a number of songs on here that rate as her best.

Why is Eleni Mandell not as big as the likes of Norah Jones? Here songwriting is on par to be some of the classic songs of the future.
