There is something about Explosions In The Sky that keeps me wanting more. It's not the vocals, they don't have any. It's not the dynamics, they don't really have a lot. What there is though is sonic power and I think that's what keeps me coming back for more. The guitars are huge. Enter their newest album, All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone. Year's after the phrase post-rock was coined it seems that Explosions In The Sky have made the definitive album.

The opening track, "The Birth And Death of the Day", is an epic in itself. It seems that Explosions take us from one end of the earth to the other in this 7 minute track. "Welcome, Ghosts" reaches the point of nothingness to return to its former glory. With a lot of Post-rock bands, despair seems to be the tone of the songs. With some of the songs on All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone like "It's Natural To Be Afraid" there is some of that darkness but for the most part, this album is a bright ray of hope. It's the dawning of a new post-rock era. Really, it's that impressive and listenable. The highlight is the 13 minute opus "It's Natural To Be Afraid". The guitars in it are so fitting making you feel like the journey wouldn't be complete without them.

I think that Explosions In The Sky have just created their career topping album in only four albums. Buy this album, don't miss it out. It really is beautiful.

I'm reasonably sure that Phil Glass has to pay child support to Rock & Roll for this band. Thanks very much for recommending this Dennis, it was completely unfamaliar to me.

I was on the edge of my seat the whole time waiting for much rougher guitar tones to hit me, but in the end I was glad they never came. There were times that I wished the harmonies had gotten more complex, even though their simplicity worked well as part of the overall sound. The slow, unstoppable, huge sweeps in dynamic left a feeling like the first climb of a roller coaster, except without the release of a drop. I was happy for that since such a winding, meandering structure can rob a song of tension.

The real gem was how well this big songs held together. The clever ways of reintroducing themes and reminding the listener where they are, even through drastic changes in the music are genius.

Absolutely brilliant. Explosive guitars and percussive drums intertwined with soothing piano create the backbone of "All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone," which shows the progression this Post-Rock band has made since their past albums. This album evokes more emotions than ever, though; even the album art engenders a setting that the listener cannot escape from, especially as the opening track boisterously begins. It is an atmospheric setting that is almost tangible; the listener feels lost in a flood, brooding over their confusion, desolateness, and loss. Everyone needs to hear it for themselves--let his/her own memories grow on an album that is inexhaustible and unlimited to interpretations.

Amazing, amazing, amazing. What a few guys can do with the traditional set-up of a rock band...this album just blows my mind. I'm fond of atmosphere and emotive feel in my music, and this album delivers both in supersized quanities. Having been a fan since "The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place", I expected bigger and better things here and recieved them. The entire album flows together for me, sounding like one long track chock full of beautiful melodies and arrangements. The use of piano is a bit new for the band and I think it works like a charm when it's incorporated. This one is on my "Top 10 of the decade" list. Reccomended to EVERYONE. Don't let the post-rock tag scare you, these guys are probably the most accessable band in the genre.

Wow... more impressive than your five star rating wastheir sound. I'm hooked...Welcome Ghosts (just to your right!) is chalk full of bendy guitar rock with a twist of light metal. I'm just jealous I didnt get to review this first. Best review of the year so far.
