Husker Du - Everything Falls Apart
A friend of mine once said that every time Bob Mould said the word “fuck” on this record it was like he was trying to save his own life. Or yours. The intensity and immediacy that was Husker Du, the demand in their music for real emotional encounters between people, was never more explicit or overwhelming as on Everything Falls Apart. The original EP was released on CD with extra goodies like early rare singles and demos, the highlight being the monumental “In a Free Land” and “Amusements.”
From the outrageously fast “Bricklayer” and “Punch Drunk” to “Target” “Gravity” and the classic title track, this record is one of the must-haves of the last 30 years. It not only established the Huskers rep, but is filled with so many ideas and riffs that have sustained hardcore, alt-rock, no-wave and whatever other genre is out there still trying to wring some honesty out of rock. This is about as honest and life-affirming as a sonic belt to the jaw can be.
