Making a splash in the Boston punk scene, The Unseen has been ripping up the town ever since 1994 and there is no sign of this aggressive old-school punk band packing it in. The reason for their perseverance has to be their die-hard DIY attitude. This is the first time they have actually released anything on a so-called label in their life. They had previously recorded material and released it on their own, respectfully selling almost 20,000 copies of two albums. Fellow Bostonians, Dropkick Murphys have taken them on tour a couple of times including their tour this year. But what about the music, you may ask. The Unseen have a knack for taking old-school punk and incorporating enough hardcore tweaks to make a totally invigorating sound that gets the blood flowing. Their lyrics tend to be on the political side (like some of the best punk bands in history). As Reed from the Pass Out Kings once told me, “If a punk band has nothing to be angry about, then it’s no longer punk. Ain’t that the truth. Punk is about rebellion and if you don’t have anything to rebel against then you may as well call yourself emo and sing about breaking up with your girlfriend. An anger case on the album would have to be “No Master Race with the lyrics “Fuck Nazi, Religion, KKK / it’s all a fucking lie. The Unseen have some already classic tracks on The Anger and The Truth that are just waiting to be scooped up by the awaiting punk kingdom.
