Everybody knows Tim Armstrong in the punk world from his successful punk band Rancid. Almost everyone knows Travis Barker from Blink-182. Well, the two of them wanted to do a project together so they formed the Transplants adding Rob Ashton, a mutual friend. While at times they do sound a lot like Rancid, there is not one time where you hear Blink 182. There is actually more throwbacks to the Clash with Tim’s vocals being the center point for most of the songs. The songs are filled with hook-filled choruses and the verses are catchy like Operation Ivy. There are times like on “D.R.E.A.M. where they do a punk-rap track. Transplants is actually quite a diverse album that hits a lot of highs. A couple listens and you will be singing along to songs like “Weigh On My Mind with the cute “I’m gonna hold on as long as I can he-ar. They get into the hardcore thing too on tracks like “Quick Death and “One Seventeen. Transplants show that there is indeed innovation and uniqueness in the sometimes stale punk world. Numerous punk guests show up to add to the breadth of the album.
