This is noise at an Abu Ghraib level of pain. But this is a pain that is as liberating as it is mind-scraping. Featuring seven collaborative tracks by keyboardist/computer effects genius Keiichiro Shubiuya, guitarist/mixmaster Toshimaru Nakamura and electronic manipulator Norbert Moslang, as well as three solo tracks each, this is blast of pure white noise, tinkered with to varying degrees of intensity, to the point where, identifying with one’s captor, you welcome the most piercing frequencies. You know they love you best when they do not spare the rod. The highlights of the solo work is Shibuya’s, which test frequencies to their limits and rise and fall with at the artist’s whim. This is not easy listening, or even pleasant, but it is true and real, which is always better than easy.
