Delicate Noise is the one man electronic project based out of Chicago, Illinois. Diversion is the downtempo and soundscape debut album from Mark Andrushko. Signed to indie label Lens Records, Mark had hoped to make a big bang in the industry.
Mark chose to combine trip hop, minimalism, and synth-pop in this release. While electronic music may be the up and coming progressive art of our era...it is easy to become a hit or miss band. While Delicate Noise may be noise..it is anything but delicate. Instead we are offered twelve tracks of minimalist electronic music. In other words, we are given a chance to wish we were listening to something else.
Diversion opens with "Clearly" which, for the first two minutes, is not a bad track. Then you realize the music may as well have been looped and the vocals are bland and uninspired. Unfortunately for us, nothing gets better. Track by track we are treated to basic electric music, bland lyrics, and uninspired singing. The overall effect is less then impressive.
Where Mark aimed for art and an encompassing ambiance..he fell short on all efforts. Diversion finds itself falling into the category that too many electronic musicians find themselves in--taking their music too seriously. Though that is not to say the album on a whole is terrible. It features terrific art work and is also possible to listen to in the background as you clean or do work. In closing Diversion finds itself where so many other artists do--my shelf--never to be spun again.
