My first introduction to The Stryder was Masquerade in the Key of Crime and I was very impressed. Now they drop the new Jungle City Twitch but to my dismay, lead vocalist John Johansen quite the band due to creative differences. What did this mean for The Stryder? Well, to be honest, I think this was a good move. The drummer, Scottie Redix switched to guitar and shared vocal duties with Toh. They managed to also get former Glassjaw drummer, Durijah Lang to fill Redix’s position. The band really sounds better than ever. I would say that most of the new material is even stronger and catchier than their last album. The album starts out fairly heavy with “Billy and then softens up a bit with the harse words of “Crook. While The Stryder would fit into the emo mold, they are diverse enough to be able to hold their own against any indie rock band. They can rock out hard or lay back and wear their hearts on their sleeves. A true talent in todays muddled music world.
