Every once and a while I crave some really good World music. If you are like me then look no further than the infamous Ali Farka Toure. His latest posthumous album is called Savane and it is arguably Toure's best album. If you are unfamiliar with Toure, he was one of the premier musicians to make it to the Western world out of West Africa. He made a Grammy award winning album with world traveller Ry Cooder, called Talking Timbuktu and up to the point of the release of Savane it was his best album. Unfortunately, the world lost this great musician to cancer earlier this year.
Savane does provide a great way to remember this amazingly talented musician. Ali Farka took a lot of influence from Blues and incorporated into the music from his homeland. I find his music to be a little hypnotic as well, the combination of his superior guitar playing and the African percussion instruments keeping the beat. The album starts out with a killer little guitar lick on "Banga". Some African percussion kicks in with a flute. It really sets the tone for what you can expect for the rest of Savane.
If you need a fix of World music then try Savane on for size. Even if you are just a blues fan and are looking for something a little different, Toure is sure to please. Take some time, check out this album, find out there is more to life than music made in North America.

Have a lot of his older albums (Ali Farka Toure, African Blues) and he is as you said, excellent. Did you realise that his son (Vieux Farka Toure) has taken on his mantle?
