The Starting Line is everything you could want in a (Gasp!) emo band. Yup, this is a group of emotionally distraught men in their early 20’s that have gotten together to talk about lifes miseries. The thing with Starting Line is they have a super ear for melody. Say It Like You Mean It rings out like a beautiful church bell. Harmonies are tight and the guitars completely compliment each other. Their songs are energetic, and well written. It also helps when you have someone like Mark Trombino (Jimmy Eat World, Blink 182) running the control boards. The Starting Line isn’t all that original (they really sound like Saves The Day) but the execution is almost picture perfect. So if you don’t spend too much time getting caught up in the sappy lyrics (“Tell me what you thought about when you were gone and so alone/The worst is over, you can have the best of me), and just relish in the super harmonies then you will find enjoyment in this band. Otherwise, you may be finished before you even reach The Starting Line.
