This five song EP is an intro to their debut full-length, due out in the Spring. Since the band has been getting a lot of love on My Space, that ought to be a winner. If these tracks are a good sample of what is to come, Abigail Williams will be having a very good year. A tour which in the next couple of months will take them around California, Texas, Ontario and Quebec will be a can’t miss.
Mixing death metal’s sludgy bottom and drama with some good old thrashy guitar riffs, “From a Buried Heart,” “Like Carrion Birds” and the rest cover familiar territory with exuberance and feisty charm. Included is a demo, “Procession of the Aeons,” which gives a nice raw insight into their recording process.
Like Rap, Metal never went away, or faded totally into self-parody; both have a serious underground that has kept the freshness and threat alive. Add Abigail Williams to the list of those keeping it real.
