Lassi Nikko (AKA Brothomstates) comes to us from Finland. His new Warp CD invokes thoughts of icy landscapes and barrenness, much like Finland’s landscape. You will be happy to know that Brothomstates doesn’t stray far from the typical Warp catalogue but does provide a very interesting twist on things. There is very little humor or fun found on Claro but the point of the album is to get your mind into another space altogether. Claro succeeds on this end. As I said, you are whisked away into an icy landscape that has whirling winds and chills galore creeping up your ever so warm parka. Lassi is a brilliant illusionist that is able to transform time and space to make you feel like you don’t even exist. The imagery that Claro is able to conjure up is second to none and it is really hard to believe that this is indeed Brothomstates debut album. He has had an EP out previously but even so, this album is still surprising at it’s quality. Autechre fans apply within.
