This live record sounds like it may have been recorded at a cockfight; that, or in front of one drunken, growing riot. Accordingly, the Lips plow into their songs with evil gusto, keeping up the with crowd sin for sin. Recorded live in Tijuana, “Los Valientes..” which means “brave new world”, is old school garage pnk glory. The enhanced CD, their debut on Vice, features live drunken footage sure to scare the chemical romancers and other posers. With a pocketful of classics, many recorded here---especially the vile “Sea of Blasphemy,” but including “Dirty Hands,” “MIA” and “Everybody’s Doing It”—the Black Lips more than keep their crown as best band alive. This set is a good tonic to those who think that the band play live merely as an excuse to beat each other up, taunt the audience, and play guitar with their dicks. They do that here too, but the music is tight, giving even greater, Stones-y sinister depth to the studio tracks. If the world were new and brave, this would sell more than the hundred or so that it will.

I just finished listening to this album and I'm impressed. This is my first exposure to The Black Lips and I can't believe that I haven't listened to them before. They've got that latino punk thing going but their style is almost post-hardcore. I don't know what to call it. Check it out and let me know what you think.
