This is it. This is the album that got me into punk. I was a confused 11 year old boy trying to find his way in this world, and while everyone else was into pop crap (Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys) I was looking for something else. I didn't like that stuff. I mean, I pretended to so that I would seem 'cool' to the other kids, but I still thought it was pretty crappy annoying stuff. Besides, it didn't work anyway since everyone at school had thought I was a 'poor loser'. Thank God I discovered that movie Idle Hands. I would have never have heard of this band if I hadn't. If you haven't seen that film, there is one particular scene where The Offspring are performing a cover of classic Ramones song 'I Wanna Be Sedated' and their own little classic 'Beheaded' for a high school Halloween dance. Well, I got soooo addicted to that 'I Wanna Be Sedated' cover, that I eventually took the time to look for the band who did it. Thank God for the internet. I discovered that this band was called The Offspring, and thought..."Hmmm. I need one of their CDs." So, I went into the living room and bugged the hell out of my dad to get up and get me a CD. I was suprised that he actually did get up, because he rarely got me anything unless it was Christmas or a birthday or something. Financially, we were not in the best of circumstances...let's just leave it at that. This one was the first one I saw, because it was on the New Releases rack when we got to our local Camelot Music store. I picked it up and told him this one was the one I wanted. After we paid for it, I immediately tore the wrapper off and stuck the CD in my dad's car player. I don't think I've ever been so excited about a fucking CD ever again. Well, there was the new Strike Anywhere album... Anyway, I was hooked after the first song, 'Come Out Swinging'. It was so fast. It was so...loud. It was so awesome. I had never heard anything so fast paced in my life, and I thought it was cool as hell. My dad didn't like it, and being an 11 year old boy, I thought that was even cooler. Now, it was a pretty far drive from our house into town back then because we used to live in the middle of nowhere, so by the time we got home, the whole CD was finished. And right then, I knew I had found my first true 'favorite band'. Because of them, I discovered Dead Kennedys. Then Bad Religion. Then The Germs. Then Pennywise. And because of Pennywise, I discovered Black Flag. Because of Black Flag, I discovered Minor Threat and Gorilla Biscuits. Then, because of the magical internet, I discoverd the Subhumans, Crass, Rudimentary Peni, Flux of Pink Indians, Aus-Rotten, Anti-Flag, Etc. etc. Now, I've moved past this band, and I no longer have a favourite band, but these guys will always have a special place in my heart. It's because that I'm now a peace punk. No, I can't believe it either, but it's true, guys, it's true! Btw, this isn't their best album. I would get Smash and Ixnay On The Hombre instead. ;)
