Don’t let the fact that on this second release the band has added touches of woodwinds, brass and violin. CS turn on, plug in and range with intelligent melodic punk, giving you ideas to chew on as you are busy pulling the skin off your face. Shredding and smart tracks that remind one of Dinosaur Jr. and even Lou Reed, with lyrics by Vocalist/guitarist Drew Benton that show, don’t tell; this trio is both monstrous and sublime. “The Thawing Neck” and “ Bad Plumbing Beneath A Spilled Philter” the final two songs on the discs, are the monumental highlights, but that could easily be said of “ Rickets” and “The Somnabulateur.” Killing you softly with hammer and smarts, Compromising Positions is as memorable as it is painful.
