I always think twice about doing a Tragically Hip review but the reality of it is, they are only huge in Canada. The rest of the world needs to know the brilliance of this Canadian iconic band. World Container is the band's latest album and a nice move into a much sunnier area of songwriting. The album opens with the easy rocker, "Yer Not The Ocean", a song that will become a classic in a few years. Songs like "In View" and "Fly" are just meant to have good times too. They are bright songs with a happy disposition. Then they take a bit of a darker turn with the brilliant "Luv (Sic)". And what's a Tragically Hip album without a hockey song? They bring up the volume for "The Lonely End Of The Rink". One track I didn't enjoy was "Pretend", it was too repetitive in both lyrics and music. The Tragically Hip is a band that could have easily packed it in a few albums ago but really, I think some of their best material is going to happen down the road. The Hip just keep expanding their musical palate like a good band should.
