Reel Big Fish is the musical equivalent of all that is awesome in the world, including punching people in the faces and driving with sunglasses on. Why Do They Rock So Hard?, their second album, is jammed filled with ball busting, head banging, face melting ska/punk which you will find, if your brain isn't hanging out your nose because of it's utter intensity, is their best CD to date. Fans of anything will find that shredding songs like "The Set Up (You Need This)" and "She's Famous Now" are some of the most addictive rockers the band ever put out. Both offer catchy lyrics, amazing guitar licks, and solo's that will blow the crap out your butt. Song's like "Somebody Hates Me" beg the question: Why do they rock so friggin' hard!? The song opens with a dual-guitar riff that will put you in a sling and continues onward with the most impressive horn line on the album. Besides showing incredible musicianship, songwriting skill, and an utter lack of human decency, the band also brings a whole lot of variety to the table. They've got their reggae down on the fantastic "I'm Cool" and "Song #3", which features a reggae staple, a mumbling vocalist. There’s a second "Skatanic" on this album known as "Everything Is Cool" but instead being about stalking an innocent girl, it's just about hating someone, which is heard a lot on the album. And after all the epic songs, the album closes with a smooth jazz instrumental that of course, features some shred. And Scotty's unlisted vulgar rap is the cherry on top that makes this a total ska classic. The only thing I would see as a problem is that some songs can get old, like constantly getting your face melted after listening to this. On this album, Reel Big Fish teaches us that rock 'n roll is not about music, but picking up fly girls.
