Bonobo is the brilliant work of Simon Green who comes our way from the seaside town of Brighton England. Everyone in the area was talking about this new chill-out DJ that was knocking people out. That person was Simon and Simon, through all the good things that he had done, managed to get a recording deal with the electronica stalwarts, Ninja Tune. Going under the moniker Bonobo, Simon Green has released his first full-length feature album. Let me tell you that Animal Magic is more than impressive. The beats on here are super sublime, as chill-out music should be, and the samples and instrumentation is top notch. As with most downtempo albums a couple listens are in order before you make your final decision. My final decision was to put Bonobo on repeat so I didn’t have to keep reaching for the remote every time it was over. There is way more to Animal Magic than the average chill-out album contains. The textures and soundscapes areindeed beautiful. Ninja Tune has done us a fine service in bringing Simon Green to North America.
