No Use For A Name is one of my favorite punk bands going right now and Hard Rock Bottom is a great all round punk album. Just when you think the band can’t really get any better, such as I thought with their last full-length, More Betterness, they pull of an album of even stronger material and catchier riffs. Hard Rock Bottom is anything but rock bottom. This is an album that will appeal to pop fans as well as the California punk scene fans. There are melodies abundant and before the album is over you will be singing along to at least one of the songs. There isn’t a bad song on here either. They are on the right label, using the same tricks as label owners, NOFX, do but I would venture to say that NUFAN might have even surpassed NOFX’s quality on Hard Rock Bottom. They cover Sinead O’Connor’s ‘This is a Rebel Song using the great vocals of Karina Denike of Dance Hall Crashers. One of this years punk highlights for sure.
