Do you remember 80's lounge singer Buster Poindexter? That freak came from the seminal punk rock group New York Dolls believe it or not. Back then he was known as David Johansen. As well the rowdy rocker Johnny Thunders was a member too. Have I got your interest peaked yet? Let's throw one more tidbit in; Todd Rundgren produced this classic album. Listening to this today you may not realize the originality of the tracks contained but when you think that this album was put out in 1973 your jaw may drop. The Dolls take Rolling Stones and rock them like they have never been rocked before. Many have given the New York Dolls the title of the first Glam Rock band but after hearing the album you will know that they were so much more. The non-success of their self-titled debut led them to look for a producer who could clean them up a bit. The result was Too Much, Too Soon which was released in 1974 and it received even less fanfare. Just a case of a band ahead of it's time.
