Damn, what is with Sweden and their Black Metal acts? I have just resently discovered Dissection and the amazing metal voice of Jon Nödtveidt (too bad he ended up in prison ending Dissection's less than decade reign, more recently released and has recorded another Dissection album. Check out Allmusic for the complete story). I think the thing with Swedish metal acts is that they don't give a fuck about what other people think. Like when "Night's Blood" has the melodic break-down in the middle is one of the most beautiful guitar segments by any band, metal or not. Storm of the Light's Bane was originally released in 1996 but this version is coupled with the Where Dead Angels Lie EP and was made available by the amazing Nuclear Blast America. The music is fast and furious but lo-and-behold there is huge melody going on as well. It's the sort of thing that a lot of American bands try to avoid but it's what makes acts like Dissection so lovable. It's really hard to believe the brilliance behind epic tracks like "Unhallowed". The drumming is un-fucking-believable and the guitars are so huge and all over the place. I would regard Storm of the Light's Bane as one of Black Metal's "must have's". It has to be heard to be believed. I will try and seek out their new album too but with an all new line-up it is hard to believe that this album could be beat.

Listening while I comment. It is honestly one of the best Black Metal acts I have ever heard. Lots of groove and loads of hate. Amazing shit, and great review D.
