Irving is a Los Angeles based indie-pop band that is carrying on a bit of that Elephant 6 collective sound mixed with something a little closer resembling the Shins. Death In The Garden, Blood On The Flowers is their latest full-length following their well-received debut, Good Morning Beautiful and an EP called I Hope Your Feeling Better Now. While indie-pop isn't always something worth the ink, Irving has the chops and hooks that separates it from a lot of other contenders. Does the Shins comparison come because Phil Ek produced? I'm sure it had a little to do with it but the pop side of things are present as well. You can tell that Irving has a diverse array of influences at play, Beatles, The Shins, Elephant 6 bands... This band is much more conventional than any Elephant 6 band with not as much experimentation going on. Think more like a lower-fi Dandy Warhols or something along that line. Some of the arrangements need to be mentioned, like the brilliant backing vocals on "I Want To Love You In My Room", probably the most Dandy-like. It's a fun album and one that is multi-dimensional as well, with all the members taking turns at songwriting.
